While scientist around the world scramble to find a cure for the world pandemic, Madagascar’s President Andry Rajoelina has announced  that the country has a herbal cure for COVID 19 called “Covid-Organics” and he claims that the herbal treatment has already cured two people of the virus.

What is Covid-Organics?

Covid Organics is made from artemisia, a plant with that is also known to cure malaria, according to the Malagasy Institute of Applied Research, which started the herbal beverage. The plant is said to be first imported into Madagascar in the 1970s from China for malaria treatment. But today it is now marketed as a cure for COVID 19. President Rajoelina has said clinical trials are under way in Madagascar to produce a form that can be injected into the human body.

On the effectiveness of the herbal beverage, World Health Organization (WHO) in a statement advised that

“Africans deserve to use medicines tested to the same standards as people in the rest of the world,” WHO, the United Nations health agency, said in a statement on Monday. “Even if therapies are derived from traditional practice and natural, establishing their efficacy and safety through rigorous clinical trials is critical,” the statement added.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has also warned people against using unproven remedies.

The African Union also in discussion with Madagascar President agreed that the member state would furnish the African Union with necessary details regarding the herbal remedy.

“Once furnished with the details, the union, through the Africa CDC, will review the scientific data gathered so far on the safety and efficacy of the COVID-19 organics”. “This review will be based on global technical and ethical norms to garner the necessary scientific evidence regarding the performance of the tonic.”

African countries like Tanzania, Liberia, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau, have showed huge interest in the herbal remedy. They have either placed orders or have received consignments of the remedy.
