The South East Coalition For Good Governance, SECGC, has advised the national leader of the All Progressive Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and other non Igbos, who are aspiring to be President of Nigeria in 2023, to shelve their presidential ambitions, and lend their support to the genuine quest by Igbo to produce the nation’s next president in 2023.
Rising after it’s extraordinary meeting in Enugu, spokesman of the Coalition, Nelson Ejiofor, particularly singled out Tinubu, whom he advised, should demonstrate that he is a indeed a true statesman, and a firm believer in equity, justice and unity of Nigeria, by backing an Igbo to become the next President of Nigeria in 2023.
Mr.Ejiofor said it is evidently clear that it is the turn of Igbo to produce the nation’s president, since all the geo political zones in the country, had at one time or the other, produced the nation’s president.
He said “The entire North, the South West, the South-South, had produced Presidents of this great country, now that it is expected that the presidency should return to the Southern region after the North have had it’s turn, it is only the South East zone in Southern Nigeria that has not produced a President for the country.
“It is against the grain of commonsense for the South West, particularly the APC national leader, Bola Tinubu to join the presidential contest in 2023 when his region had produced Olusegun Obasanjo, as President from 1999-2007.
“We call on Asiwaju Tinubu, to shelve his ambition, and rather support an Igbo to produce the next President of Nigeria. We call on him to rally round the Igbo nation, the same manner he resolutely supported President Muhammadu Buhari from the North, to become President.
“We advise jagaban to throw his weight of support behind an Igbo, preferably to one of his party-man in the APC from the South East, for the 2023 presidential contest.Posterity will be kind to him and the Igbo race will forever remain in gratitude to him.
“We also appeal to non Igbos from various parts of the country who intend to plunge into the presidential race to also consider the tenet of equity of justice and fair-play by backing an Igbo nation to produce the nation’s next President in 2023.
The Coalition said it believes in reaching out to other geo political zones, to see the need to support the Igbo nation in its quest to produce the nations’ President
“We believe dialogue is the right approach to realize this project. This informed our plea to Asiwaju Tinubu, and others as well, especially non Igbo, to shelve their rumoured presidential ambition and support the quest of Igbo nation” he said.
