A female teaching assistant who had sex with a 15-year-old pupil at a hotel after plying him with drugs and alcohol has been sentenced to 32 months in jail.
Kellie Louise Smith, 28, began grooming her teenage victim by bringing him sweets before showering him with “extra attention” at his school in Coventry.
She was made subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will serve half her sentence on licence.
A court heard the pair met at a Holiday Inn Express after they had shared “flirty banter” about her bottom on the school minibus together.
Smith bought the youngster cannabis, cocaine and booze before bedding him in the early hours of March 29 last year.
Smith, who taught at the school for three years, was suspended and later sacked over the sex claims.
She was arrested after the schoolboy’s DNA was found on her underwear and CCTV showed her and the boy together at the hotel in Nuneaton, Warks.
The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted having consensual sex with Smith on two occasions and that he thought she was “fit”.
Sentencing her at Warwick Crown Court, Recorder Martin Butterworth told her she had “abused the trust” placed in her by the school and her victim’s parents.
He said: “The victim was in your care. You had received the appropriate training for vulnerable children.
“You have in your background a great deal, which I will take into account.
“None of this can excuse the way you abused the trust the school placed in you and the trust the parents placed in you.
“He caught your eye and there was grooming behaviour from you towards him.
“The fact accepted by the prosecution is that he consented and you weren’t abusing him against his will makes no difference at all to the fact you took advantage of a vulnerable child to satisfy your own sexual needs.”
He said that Wilson treated the boy as a ‘potential partner’ and said she groomed him ‘over many hours’ with trips in her car.
Judge Butterworth added: “Whatever his attitude was towards you, it could not be trusted as a mature attitude as he was a child and you were an adult and his teaching assistant.
“He is a child and you abused your trust and him.
“I am going to accept the decision by the psychiatrist of you being immature and naive. He identified you as having depression and mild learning difficulty.
“There are a number of features which aggravate the offence but the principle one was that it involved ejaculation and you were under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
“In mitigation, you were at a low ebb. Your background effected how you developed as an adult. You care for your half-siblings.
“I accept you demonstrate remorse and your lack of maturity, which I am prepared to accept affected your responsibility.
“You are entitled to one-third credit and therefore the appropriate sentence I can give is 32 months imprisonment.”
Yesterday Smith pleaded guilty to two offences of sexual activity with a child under 16.
Wearing a white blouse, black trousers and black pump shoes, she wept in the dock and dabbed her eyes with a tissue as the case was outlined against her.
Andrew Tucker, defending, said his client had “let herself down” and was “stupid” to begin a sexual relationship with the 15-year-old victim.
He said: “She has placed herself in an extremely serious position. It has had a debilitating effect on here.
“These incidents occurred when she was at a low ebb. She has overcome through her own hard work very many of those setbacks.”
