Deji of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, has ordered markets and shops in Akure to be closed for two days in observance of the annual Aheregbe and Amole Festival.
The festival is an age-long tradition where the Sipi traditionalists dance round Akure and its environs.
Any shop found open for business would be looted, which is why the festival is referred to as ‘Du du du’ meaning ‘take your own I take my own’.
Chief Press Secretary to the monarch, Adeyeye Michael, in a statement, said all markets and shops in Akure would be shut on Monday August 24, 2020 and Wednesday September 9th 2020.
Adeyeye said no trading or opening of shops under any guise would be allowed on these days.
The statement urged traders, market women and shop owners to comply with the directive.
It however said the festival would not in any way restrict human and vehicular movement in Akure.
