Breaking!!! #EndSars : Senate directs Nigerian Police to protect protesters
…asks President Buhari to address the nation.
The Nigerian Senate has asked the Nigerian Police and other security agencies to accompany and protect genuine protesters in the on-going #EndSars protest.
The Senate made the resolution while granting the additional prayer moved by Senator Yusuf Yusuf (Taraba North) at the conclusion of a motion moved by Senator Olujimi Abiodun (Ekiti South) and 108 Senators.
The Senate further urged President Buhari to address Nigerians on the efforts being made by the Federal Government at address the demands of the protesters in order to quell the on-going unrest.
Earlier; Senator Aleiro, while speaking on the motion called on the Federal Government to deploy the force and other extreme measures as a means of halting the protesters. The Kebbi central Senator cited the hijacking of the protest by hoodlums which resulted to the burning and vandalizing of public properties.
However; Deputy President of the Senate , Sentor Ovie-Omo Agege deferred with Senator Aliero. Agege identified with the demands of the protesters saying that he was also victim of police brutality in 2015.
Senator Agege, while explaining to his colleagues narrated how he was sprayed with tear gas which damaged his eyes thus resulting to the use of medical glaases today. He advised the protesters to be orderly and shun violence while also appealing to them to give Government chance to address their demands.
