469 Ekiti Students Get N96.1m Scholarship Award

Ekiti State Gov. Kayode Fayemi has approved the disbursement of N96.14 million as scholarship awards to 469 students of the state origin in tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

The state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Dr Olabimpe Aderiye, disclosed this to newsmen in Ado Ekiti.

The commissioner said that the state government had begun electronic payment to bank accounts of the beneficiaries.

Aderiye said that the beneficiaries included 31 physically challenged students, 288 undergraduates and 150 postgraduate students.

According to the official, the postgraduate students comprise 71 master’s degree students and 79 PhD students.

The commissioner said that the undergraduates and the physically challenged would receive N60,000 each, while master’s students would get N250,000 each and PhD students, N750,000 each.

The official said that the state government had signed an agreement with the awardees to work with the government for two years after graduation.

Aderiye said that the government was committed to the welfare of all students from the state.

The commissioner urged the beneficiaries to reciprocate the government’s gesture by concentrating on their studies and shunning vices.
