Donald Duke, a former Governor of Cross Rivers State, has claimed that the dreaded Boko Haram terrorist group gets most of its weapons from security operatives.
Speaking on Channels Television, the former governor called on the Muhammadu Buhari government to investigate the nation’s security forces and flush out the bag eggs.
He said: “Boko Haram insurgents who have been responsible for most heinous crimes, get their weapons from the security operatives.
“Most of the weapons used by Boko Haram come from our armoury, we will need to look into that. Why are we selling weapons to the enemy?”
Speaking further, Donald Duke pointed out that the Nigerian military and police in the northeast must be adequately motivated to achieve results.
He also called for the use of intelligence to combat insecurity such as kidnapping across the country.
“I think the soldiers in the Northeast are under-motivated, the government should motivate them,” he said.
“We need to task them on intelligence gathering. More of intelligence than firepower.
“Also, by now, we need to develop a strategy on kidnap. Are the police properly motivated? I doubt it, and they don’t have enough weaponry.”
Recall that Boko Haram Terrorist group on Saturday beheaded 43 farmers in Zabarmari, less than 20 km from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Zambarmari is located in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State.
The bodies of the slain farmers whose throats were slit were on Sunday morning buried in a brief ceremony led by Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State.
However, the United Nations stated that over 110 farmers were actually killed and not the 43 reported in the media.
