At least seven persons have reportedly been killed with scores of others injured in a fatal auto accident along the Calabar-Itu road in Itu local government area of Akwa Ibom state.
The accident which involved a fuel tanker and two tricycles happened along the failed portion of the road at Ntak Inyang area which is currently under repair by the state government after it was cut off by a landslide.
It was gathered that the tricycles were conveying school children and some passengers before the unfortunate circumstance occurred.
It was further gathered that the driver and the passengers including school children died after the tank ran over the tricycle.
It was learnt that the dual carriageway was under repairs, forcing all motorists to ply just one lane.
Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in the state said it was gathering facts about the accident.
The state Sector Commander, Oga Ochi, told our correspondent said officers were immediately dispatched to the scene after receiving information about the crash.
The FRSC sector commander who said the accident occurred because the truck was at an excessive speed when it rammed into the tricycles added that investigation into the incident was still ongoing.
