Former Governor of Abia state and Chief Whip of the Senate 9th Senate , Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has described the successes of Afrobeat Nigerian Artistes, Burna Boy and Wizkid, who won their first awards at the 63rd Grammys this week as achievements that will encourage Youths in the country to aspire for greatness.
Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ogulu, won the best global music album category with his Twice As Tall album released in August 2020.
Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, also known as Wizkid on the other hand, won a Grammy for the Best Music Video’ for his role in ‘Brown Skin Girl’, Beyonce’s 2019 hit song.
Taking to his official media handles on Facebook and Twitter (@OUKtweets) Senator Kalu said , “Congratulations to Damini Ogulu,@burnaboy & Ayodeji Balogun,@wizkidayo on their emergence as winners at the 63rd annual #Grammy @RecordingAcad awards. Their successes have further showcased the potentials of Nigeria’s creative industry to the global audience.
This is indeed a motivation to all most especially the Nigerian Youths in the Creative Art industry and other sectors of the Nation.
The Abia-North Senator who turns 61 next month also celebrated Nigeria’s comedy star, Emanuella Samuel, popularly known as Emanuella, who by public voting, emerged the winner of the “Favourite African Social Media Star” category at the Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards 2021. The 10-year-old comedienne beat Ikorodu Bois who was also nominated in the same category as hers.
He wrote “I also extend my best wishes to our comedienne Emanuella who won the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards 2021 in the Favourite African Social Media Star category. This is also another major achievement.”
Emanuella was nominated alongside Nigerian comedy group – Ikorodu bois, South African Magician – Wian Van Den Berg; Ugandan Youth Dance Group – Ghetto Kids, Kenyan social media sensation – Elsa Majimbo, and South African media personality – Bonang Matheba.
