Ilemakin Soyinka, the son of Nobel laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka has debunked rumours of his death.
A Twitter account supposedly belonging to winner of the 2021 Nobel prize for literature Abdulrazak Gurnar had tweeted that Soyinka had passed on.
“I got a call from Nigeria. Wole Soyinka died suddenly a few minutes ago. A terrible news,” the post which has since been deleted read.
The post gathered over 150 retweets and 250 likes in a short time.
The fake account was created in August 2021 and already has 14,000 followers.
However, Soyinka’s son told TheCable that the rumour was false.
“The rumour has been going round since last week. Soyinka is alive when last I checked,” he said.
