It has been learnt that the officials of the Nigeria Football Federation are in a crucial meeting to decide the future of Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, with the coach likely to be disengaged soon.
It was learnt that the ongoing meeting, which was convened after the Eagles nervy 1-1 draw against Cape Verde on Tuesday, is meant to evaluate Rohr’s performance since he took charge of the team August 2016.
The result qualified the Eagles for the final play-offs for the Qatar 2022 World Cup but fans, ex-players and stakeholders alike, once again called for Rohr’s sack following the team’s colourless display in Lagos.
“The officials are also looking at possible replacements for the coach, if he eventually gets the boot, and how they will settle his huge pay,” a source at the federation, who spoke on condition of anonymity said.
Several online platforms have reported the sacking of the Franco-German but the NFF hasn’t released an official statement on his future.
“The federation will make a statement on Rohr after today’s meeting, but it’s looking likely he’ll be asked to go,” our source added.
ESPN football journalist Colin Udoh also confirmed that Rohr had been asked to quit his post as head coach of the Eagles.
“I’ve been told on and off record that Gernot Rohr has not been fired but he’s been asked to consider resignation,” Udoh tweeted.
