On Monday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi voiced support for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine despite international condemnation.
“No matter how treacherous the international storm is, China and Russia will maintain their strategic determination,” insisted China’s foreign minister. “And will push forward the comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era.”
Mr Wang stated this at a press conference to mark the annual session of the Chinese People’s Congress in Beijing.
“Both countries rejected the revival of a Cold War mentality, as well as ideological confrontation,” stressed the Chinese minister. “They are committed to the democratisation of international relations.”
His comment came in response to questions about the West’s sanctioning of Russia for invading Ukraine.
Mr Wang described China and Russia as close neighbours and strategic partners, calling their ties “one of the most crucial bilateral relationships in the world.”
He added that the relations were not only beneficial to both countries but also contributed to global peace, stability and development.
