The Peoples Democratic Party has granted a frontline House of Representatives aspirant, Chief Amobi Ogah , a waiver to fly the party’s flag in the 2023 Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency elections in Abia state.
According to reports gathered,leaders of the party rising from a crucial meeting held during the week arrived at the decision. The waiver was granted to Amobi in an official letter signed by the State PDP Chairman, Hon Alwell Asiforo.
The letter read in parts ;
“APPROVAL FOR WAIVER IN FAVOUR Of CHIEF AMOBI GODWIN OGANH MEMBER PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY — MEMBERSHIP CARD NO: 0765002 IKEAGHA I WARD 8, ISUIKWUATO LGA.
With reference to your applicanon of April 1″ 2022 on the above captioned heading and your reference to my promise that waivers will be extended to all our new members, I write to convey my approval to your request and further extend the Party’s congratulations.
We employ you to be a good representative of our Great Party (PDP) in any official assignment or representation you find that will further enhance our good image and at the same time encourage your teeming Supporters to be good ambassadors of our Party (PDP).
The development has since sparked massive Jubilation amongst members of his constituents in Abia North with many of them describing it as remarkable. Taking to the streets community stakeholders thanked the People’s Democratic Party for the gesture accorded to Chief Amobi.
The Umunneochi Progressive Minds expressed their gratitude to the state’s ruling party , they described the waiver granted to Amobi as magnanimous and a sign of a new beginning for the party and their constituency.
In a telephone chat with newsmen , Chairman of the group, Comrade Ogu Augustine Uchenna said the waiver granted showed that the party is truly Democratic.
” We are grateful to the party for this , this shows that the party is truly Democratic and also very accommodating. The waiver will also create an opportunity for more notable individuals to join the party. We thank the Chairman Chief Alwell Asiforo, for he truly understands how to identify with key personalities who can contribute to the development of the party.
“Chief Amobi is a grassroots politician who understands the needs and yearnings of our people and we are very confident in his capacity to lead us when he is eventually elected, he said .
Amobi Ogah, the younger brother of Minister of State for Mines and Steel, Uche Ogah, had dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), citing the ruling party’s failure to turn things around in the country as his reason.
Defecting at Onuaku Uturu, his home town, Amobi said his decision to join the PDP was informed by the alleged failure of the APC in the management of the nation’s security, economy and the rising unemployment among the youths.
Ogah, who said he decamped with thousands of his supporters, stressed that the PDP will not only sweep Abia North but that his new party would reclaim the presidential seat of the country and return Nigeria to prosperity.
