Super Eagles defender, Calvin Bassey has been named the Men’s Young Player of the Year at Scottish Premiership club Rangers for the 2021/22 season.

The 22-year-old Nigerian international was rewarded for his outstanding season with the Gers, having broken into the first-team set-up this season.

Bassey, who has made a total of 43 appearances for the Scottish side across all competitions, was also nominated for the Overall Men’s Player of the Year Award alongside fellow Nigerian Joe Aribo. But Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos won that award.

“Thank God. It’s an honour and blessing to receive this reward for this amazing club/thank you to everyone that has and is helping me on this journey,” he wrote on social media.

Born in Aosta, Italy – Bassey initially rose through the youth ranks at Leicester City before joining the Gers in 2020.

In his maiden season at the Ibrox Stadium, he made eight league appearances for Steven Gerrard’s men, while featuring in the Scottish Cup and League Cup respectively.
