The governorship candidate of the Action Peoples Party in Abia state, Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu (Nwa-Aba), has commiserated with traders of the Ariaria International Market for their loss occasioned by flooding.
It would be recalled that MUK TV reported how torrential rainfall in Aba last Saturday caused flooding at the Ariaria market, damaging goods worth millions of Naira.
In a statement released to the media, Chief Mascot, who is also a well-known businessman, expressed his sadness over the incessant flooding of the commercial city of Aba, describing the Ariaria incident as an avoidable natural disaster.
Part of the statement reads: “As a businessman myself, I know how it feels to incur a loss, especially if the loss could have been avoided. Because of obvious government neglect, flooding keeps destroying the properties, goods, services, and means of livelihood of our people.
The former Abia state Chief of Staff, through the press statement, further assured the traders that the crux of his formulated policies are to reconstruct the drainage system of Aba to avert flooding and to give the city an infrastructural face-lift that would transform it into an international trade hub, thereby easing the cost of doing business.
