24-Year-Old Man Sentenced To Six Months Imprisonment For Breaking Into Female Hostel In Osun

A 24-year-old man, Rafiu Shuaibu has been sentenced to six months in a correctional centre with hard labour.

He was sentenced by an Osogbo Magistrate Court has, on Thursday, for breaking into a female hostel and stealing a mobile phone.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Fatoba Temitope, told the court that the convict burgled a hostel of the Fountain University, Oke-Osun, Osogbo, and stole an Itel phone, power bank, and earpiece valued at N120,000.

Temitope, who said that the theft occurred on September 30, 2022, added that the stolen items belonged to Miss Auolat Sule.

“The defendant broke into one of the female hotels at about 5 am, tore the net to the window, and stole her Itel phone and power bank with an earpiece.

“The girls raised the alarm, and policemen on patrol in the area pursued and arrested him, and the items was recovered from him,” the prosecutor said.

The offences contravened sections 411 and 390 (9) of Criminal code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

Shuaibu pleaded guilty to the two allegations of theft when the charge was read to him.

Presiding Magistrate, A.O. Odeleye, who pronounced the sentence on Shuaibu following his guilty plea, also gave him an option of a N20,000 fine or face a jail term.

According to Magistrate Odeleye, “You are hereby sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour or pay 20,000 fine.”
