Deacon Austin Umahi, director general of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council, yesterday blamed the state’s ongoing water shortage on pipeline vandalism and the actions of the current administration’s enemies.
Umahi who made the disclosure at the APC Campaign Council headquarters along Waterworks Road Abakaliki expressed regret that despite the effort of the state governor, Chief David Umahi to ensure steady water supply in the state, the constant destruction of the water pipelines had made it difficult.
The communities in the state have been ravaged by cholera outbreaks and other waterborne diseases with no fewer than 10 persons confirmed dead while many were hospitalised, treated and were subsequently discharged.
The APC Campaign Council DG noted that the state government ensured the reticulation of the two major water schemes in the state adding that before now, there have been constant flow of tap water across the 13 local government areas of the state.
He maintained that the state governor, Chief David Umahi would ensure that there is constant water supply in the state and that the vandalized pipes are replaced and pipe borne water restored.
Umahi noted that the choice of the governorship candidate of the APC, Hon Nwifuru was the collective decision of the party, stakeholders of the state and the traditional rulers adding that anyone saying that Governor Umahi singlehandedly brought him is simply being mischievous.
He stated that a committee was set up and recommendations made adding that the governorship candidate turned out to be the choice of all the stakeholders of the APC in the state.
