Human rights activist and former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani has lamented that Nigeria has become a nation under siege based on the activities of bandits and kidnappers.
The former lawmaker made the submission on Friday in reaction to the abduction of students at the Federal College of Forestry Mechanism in the Mando area of Kaduna State.
Suspected gunmen invaded the school and abducted the female students on Thursday night.
According to the BBC, a witness said half of the female students were taken but not a single male was abducted.
The development was confirmed by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, who disclosed that the investigation is ongoing.
The spokesperson of the state police command, ASP Mohammed Jalige said the exact number of students abducted is uncertain.
“They were abducted last night, we have no details of the number of students and I can’t say if they are all female,” ASP Jalige said in a phone conversation with Daily Trust.
He said the Police are working with the Nigerian Army to trace the kidnappers and rescue the students.
Reacting to the incident, Sani lamented on Twitter that President Muhammadu Buhari lied to Nigerians when he said the Jangebe kidnappings in Zamfara State would be the last.
He also warned that Nigeria is close to tragedy based on the way bandits and other criminals are having a free flow of activities and citizens now live in constant fear.
He wrote: “Bandits invaded and kidnap students at the Federal College of Forestry mechanization Afaka, in the outskirts of Kaduna, near the Airport and close to the Nigerian Defence Academy. Our city is under siege. Our tragedy is round the clock. No lessons learned from Kagara.
When they said that the Jangebe Kidnappings would be the last, it’s clear that they really underestimated the enormity and gravity of the problem. Kidnapping is now a thriving lucrative business and students are now their stocks and Goldmine.
