Zamfara State Governor, Bello Mohammed Matawalle has donated the N30 million to the families of those who lost their lives as a result of the recent boat mishap in Warrah, Ngaski Local Government area of Kebbi State.
The gesture was announced by the Governor when he paid a condolence visit to his Kebbi State counterpart, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, in Government House, Birnin-Kebbi.
Matawalle said the money was to enable the bereaved families to purchase foodstuffs and other immediate needs.
He said: “We are in deep shock of what has happened in Ngaski Local Government, Yauri Emirate. The incident was very unfortunate.
The governor further acknowledged the efforts of Governor Bagudu toward the protection of the lives and property of the people from such unfortunate incidents.
Bagudu commended Matawalle for the invaluable gesture, as well as the remarkable show of love and concern to Kebbi State.
Bagudu said: “This visit and donation show the depth of love and feeling existing between the people of the two states.
He also condoled with the Zamfara State Governor as some of the victims of the boat mishap were from Bukkuyum in Zamfara State.
Bagudu also noted the tremendous achievements recorded by Matawalle in so short a time that he has been the Governor of Zamfara State in security and infrastructural development.
He said such hallmark by the Zamfara governor endeared him to the heart of President Muhammadu Buhari as an achiever in the task of governance.
In a related development, the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has donated the sum of N40m to the families of the victims of the boat mishap.
Tambuwal announced the donation while on condolence and sympathy visit to his Kebbi State counterpart.
The Governor said he was in Kebbi State to condole and sympathise with the government and people of Kebbi State, especially the people of Yauri Emirate, over the unfortunate boat accident which led to the loss of many lives.
