A bill for an act to amend the National Enviomental Standards And Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) (Establishment) Act , 2007 to provide for the prevention and control of atmospheric air pollution and other related matters thereto 2021, passed first reading on the floor of Nigerian Senate on Tuesday,June 1.
The bill is sponsored by the Chief Whip of the Senate and Senator Representing Abia North Senatorial district, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.
In the absence of national act that provides for clean air the country,the bill aims to establish an act to ensure that the National Enviomental Standards And Regulations Enforcement Agency more effective in the enforcement of standards , regulations and all national and international agreements, treaties , conventions and protocols on environment to which Nigeria is a signatory.
The bill was introduced by the Senate Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi at the plenary presided over by the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan and referred for second reading.
