S/East Governors Blasted for Keeping Silent As Nnamdi Kanu Rots In Detention

All governors of the South East have been lambasted by the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA for keeping silent concerning Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra who is currently in detention.

HURIWA said it is worried by the nonchalant attitude being displayed by the governors.

Notwithstanding, the Abia State Government had recently revealed that it was actively monitoring the situation with the IPOB leader.

Nnamdi Kanu is currently under trial at a Federal High Court in Abuja and his state of origin, Abia, vowed to ensure that his fundamental human rights, as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, are respected.

But HURIWA expressed worries the south east governors have shown little or no concerns at all to the abduction of Kanu from Kenya and his detention at a Department of State Services, DSS, facility.

HURIWA also condemned the inaction of the governors to the spate of the killings allegedly being perpetrated by armed Fulani herdsmen in the region.

The group queried why the governors invited federal authorities to launch military strikes against the Eastern Security Network, ESN, a security network that, according to HURIWA, was set up to confront invasion of the region by armed herdsmen.

According to the human rights organisation, the governors had ended up deceiving the people of the region when they promised to set up the Ebubeagu Security Network which never saw the light of the day.

“It is a total act of betrayal that the governors of the South East maintained conspiratorial silence amidst allegations that President Buhari abducted Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from Kenya, subjected him to indignities in an illegal rendition and then forcefully repatriated him to Nigeria against norms of International law,” HURIWA said.

“It is crude, primitive and wicked that the South East governors took no action to ascertain the veracity of the allegation of illegal abduction of a prominent Igbo son even if the governors are not in agreement just like most of us are with the advocacy for self determination in the South East of Nigeria”.

The group lamented that due to the downright political fraud by these governors, citizens are being bombarded by armed herdsmen with ESN having been crushed by the military.
