A man separated from his mother 47 years ago has finally found her again.

According to Ethiopia’s EBS Television, the Eritrean man was separated from his mother 47 years ago, but have now reunited in Ethiopia.

His mother, Zenebech, appeared on Ethiopia’s EBS television channel a few days ago, saying her daily prayer was “I want to see my son before I die.”

Shortly afterwards Mussie Kahsay Tesfagergis surprised her by calling her and boarded a flight from her hometown in the United States to Ethiopia where her mother now lives.

Mussie’s eyes filled with tears as he arrived at the airport to remember his mother.

When asked what gift he had brought to his mother, he said: “Myself.”The mother and son were introduced at a ceremony hosted by their families and the EBS channel.

Mussie said he could not remember his mother, but knew her face from her photos outside.

They cried as they hugged each other.

“I’m glad to see my mother after all these years. This is the happiest day of my life,” Mussie said.

“I would like to kiss the sky, but I can’t reach it. I extend my gratitude to all Ethiopians,” said his mother.

Mussie’s brother, who has also not been seen for a long time, said: “I’m very happy – because I’ve only seen him in a picture.”

Earlier, Mussie’s father – an Eritrean and aviation engineer – took him to Asmara, the capital, with his two brothers.

They left their mother in 1966 during the reign of Haile Selassie. Zenebech never saw her children again.

However, she once received a letter – during the Derg military rule in Ethiopia – informing her that one of her sons had gone to war with the Eritrean People’s Liberation Front (EPLF). and her other two children went abroad.
