As many as 12 innocent persons have been reportedly killed by terrorists who invaded communities around the border town of Illela in the Illela local government area of Sokoto State.

The terrorists, according to residents, stormed the area with sophisticated weapons and engaged local vigilantes and other community members.

According to one of them, at least twelve persons have been killed in seven different villages of Gatti, Mullela, Malali, Tarke, Koringo, Tudungudale, and Munwadata, all in the Illela local government area.

The Information Officer of the local government area, Muhammad Nuhu Illela said the attack has become a daily happening in the area.

He said the latest attack claimed the lives of 12 persons and several other persons were injured as the terrorists also kidnapped an unspecified number of persons.

Illela said a suspected notorious bandit operating in Tureta and Dange/Shuni known as Solar has relocated to Illela and has been disturbing the peace of the area.

He said members of the community and their local vigilantes have been mobilising to resist the attacks, especially from the suspected bandits who specialised in broad daylight attacks.
