Nigeria daily reported how Mr Obaseki voted at Unit 19 Emokpae model primary school, Oredo Local Government Area.
The result of the polling unit was announced Saturday afternoon by the INEC presiding officer at the unit.
The result showed that Mr Obaseki of the PDP polled 184 votes, while Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC scored 62 votes. Five votes were voided.
Although 14 parties are taking part in the Edo governorship election, it is believed to be a two-horse race between Mr Obaseki and Mr Ize-Iyamu.
In similar vein,the All Progressives Congress candidate in the Edo State governorship election, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has won his polling unit at Ward 5, Iguododo community in Orhionwon Local Government Area. Ize-Iyamu polled 292 votes while Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party got 21 votes. The APC candidate voted at 9:30 am at polling unit 26, ward 5 in Iguododo community, Orionhwon Local Government Area He had expressed the confidence that he would win the poll if the peaceful situation at his unit was the same everywhere. He commended INEC for good arrangements put in place for the poll
Meanwhile, the People Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State on Saturday raised alarm over the alleged invasion of voting units in Urhonigbe North and South wards.
According to the PDP Publicity Secretary, in the State, Chris osa Nehikhare, the APC thugs came in a commando style, seating on vehicle bonnets and armed with shotgun shooting into the air.
“They collected the ballot boxes and are at this minute thumb printing at the Urhonigbe police station. The police are actively supporting this invasion, snatch and grab operation,” said at the ongoing election.
“We call on the IG of police to call his men to order and INEC to seriously consider the result that will be declared from these two wards in Orhionmwon LGA.
“They scared away voters and INEC staff and seriously injured many,” he alleged.
