Abducted Imo Traditional Ruler Rescued After Two Nights In Kidnappers’ Den

Damian Nwaigwe, the abducted traditional ruler of Mbutu Kingdom in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, has been rescued.

Some gunmen had on Thursday abducted the monarch at his palace around 2:30am.

The incident caused panic in the community as villagers kept vigil from the time of the incident till dawn.

Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Micheal Abattam, on Saturday said the monarch had been rescued ‘unhurt’.

He said, “The abducted royal father, HRH Eze Damin Nwaigwe of the Mbutu Kingdom, who was kidnapped on 09/12/2021 at about 03:00 hours in his residence, has been rescued unhurt and reunited with his family.”

This comes a few hours after gunmen murdered the traditional ruler of Atta Kingdom, Edwin Azike, in Njaba Local Government Area of the state.

His corpse was found at the market square in the community on Friday morning after he was abducted on Thursday.
