An organised conspiracy to tarnish the image of Senator representing Anambra Central, Senator Uche Ekwunife by a top Anambra Senatorial candidate using the media has been uncovered as disclosed by the Ekwunife Media Organization.

The group said the plot sponsored by a former leader of state’s ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and current Senatorial aspirant under the Labour Party convened a meeting with members of the press were the plans where perfected to launch massive campaign of calumny against the person of Senator Uche Ekwunife.

Ekwunife, who is seeking re-election to represent Anambra Central on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has in the past few weeks commended inspection of projects which she facilitated to communities within her Senatorial zone.

The statement by a director in the organisation , Chief Chidoka Okpoko on Thursday said the plot was conceived at a popular hotel last week in Awka with the sole aim of pitching Ekwunife against other notable political stakeholders from the state and the masses with a view of diminishing her chances in the forthcoming coming 2023 general elections.

He said that Ekwunife’s surging popularity as a result of her sterling performance at the Senate which has provided massive infrastructural and empowerment development to Anambra Central has become a source of worry to her opponents, hence the need to result to campaign of calumny against her to smear her image and reduce her growing popularity.

The Labour Party candidate according to Chidoka is said to be responsible for the fabricated report of misleading news which made rounds on social media a week ago which reported that Senator Uche Ekwunife was chased away by youths when she visited INEC offices.

The group said part of the strategy devised by the jittery aspirants over the fear of losing include ; the “fabrication of fictitious documents, doctoring of official documents, concoction of hate statements linking Ekwunife and other political aspirants within and outside the state, castigating her numerous projects and empowerments as well fabrication of fake news to degrade her respected personality”.

The statement read in part: “ Perturbed by her wide acceptance and imminent victory in the 2023 Anambra Central polls, a grand orchestrated plot to blackmail and discredit Distinguished Senator Uche Ekwunife is in the offing.

“Unsurprisingly, the objective of those behind this abhorrent plot is to distract the electorates and good people of Anambra Central from appreciating the modest achievements within her tenure at the Senate.

“Our intel confidently gathered that so called candidate who recently decamped to the Labour Party convened a meeting which had in attendance some selected members of the press where the fears of the candidate was expressed as result of Ekwunife’s intimidating popularity saying that the only way to stop her is to launch blackmail against her person.

“As it stands, a few of such fake documents have been fraudulently procured and forwarded to selected media houses in line with the intention of the sponsor of this devious and shameless act.

“For the sake of posterity, Ekwunife believes in freedom of expression and political affiliation as enshrined in our constitution, based on Legislative duties in line with her compassion she has executed massive direct human empowerment projects for her constituents. Despite the political differences Ekwunife has maintained a cordial working relationship with every political stakeholder in Anambra state and the Nation as a whole”.

“Based on these reasons the sponsor of such plots could not find any incriminating transactions against Ekwunife in spite of strenuous efforts in that regard.

“We use the opportunity to reiterate the commitment of distinguished Senator Ekwunife to carrying out her Legislative duties and completing her lofty infrastructural and empowerment projects which she has facilitated to her constituency.

Chidoka, however, urged members of the public to disregard the planned reports describing it as not only fake but wicked and a calculated plot to cause a crisis and achieve predetermined plots.
